Featured Customer Schilling Funeral Home & Cremation

NFY is located in a small Midwest town. Sterling IL population 14,000. We have a local funeral home that is a customer of ours of course and I'd like to share what these guys are all about.

We met John Paul a few years back. At the time a guy in his thirties that seems like an unlikely funeral director. No offense here but he's a young good looking cool guy. :) His dad was a funeral director and has uncles that are in the biz as well. After we got to know JP we became fast friends, JP is a kind guy that also is conscious that he is running a business. He took it on him self to purchase and train homing pigeons. He keeps them at his father in laws farm. He told me he would take them out a little ways from home and they would fly back. A little further the next day and further again. He uses them at services. Awesome! I thought. He also has a service dog named Walter that has been a huge success for him. What a great thing I thought! JP truly cares.

One more story about JP...
I asked him if he had any regrets getting in the family biz and staying here in Sterling. He told me this. A family came in to see him after a loved one passed away. We live in a poor community. Blue collar hey days of good steel mill jobs are long past. The family said they had to do a cremation. JP asked what would you want to do vs. what you think you have to do. They preferred a standard burial but thought they could not afford it, No insurance. JP worked up some numbers and said he could do the whole thing at cost. 0 profit for him. But he needed the money by X date. The family came back in car loads. Dumping cash on to his desk. Six months later here comes the family again. Mom died. He thought to himself, I can't do this again. This time there was insurance. And they spent every penny with him. A year later another family member died. Same deal. Spent every dime at Schilling. He smiled as he said, " And... I get tamales every year for Christmas to this day from that family! I guess that's why I do it. I know I made a difference in their lives."
